Philosophy

Hey fellow explorers of this mystical world

I’ve been thinking lately about this fascinating universe which surrounds us. In fact, it’s a topic which seems to occupy my mind day in and day out. Being the person I am, I feel a natural questioning and enquiry to everything that enters my attention. I often meet people who are opposed to the concept of questioning for fear of the unknown or simply because they are not interested. However, we are all entitled to our own opinion and I thought this would be an excellent opportunity for me to share some of my thoughts with you after reading this classic quote by Albert Einstein, “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” For this reason I have decided to speak about the universe and our very existence.

While I was sitting in biology class yesterday, discussing meteorites and asteroids, I began to really consider how this life actually started. Where does the energy come from which created this bizarre and mind-boggling universe? As human beings we are essentially made up of matter. Yet somehow the atoms which we are made up of came together to form emotions, thoughts and basically the entire world we see today. Matter became aware of itself.

brain named itself

We so often get caught up in all of the petty and unnecessary things in life that we forget to appreciate the world for all the amazingly intricate subtleties it has to offer. Sometimes when I’m feeling down I think of something out-of-this-world to help me overcome my negativity:

-There are approximately 7.5 billion other people on the planet all with their own set of families, problems, emotions, thoughts and complexities. If this didn’t strike a chord within you let me put this in perspective. The average human brain has 86 billion neurons- if you calculate it the total number of neurons of people combined is a whopping 645 000 000 000 000 000 000.

earth in big wide worldyou are here

If you had to compress the entire universes existence into a year from 1st January being the start of the universe to 31st December being the present time period, your entire lifetime would only consume a few milliseconds of the last second of the 31st of December. To read more about this visit http://waitbutwhy.com/2013/08/putting-time-in-perspective.html OR http://visav.phys.uvic.ca/~babul/AstroCourses/P303/BB-slide.htm

Life is truly incredible with its infinite amount of possibilities. And we get all of this dazzling variety because we are aware of our very existence. Conscious of our very consciousness. Just before I drop off to sleep, I’m going to leave you with some philosophical food for thought…If you are capable of creating an idea that isn’t real, how do you know that you are not an unreal idea that someone else in another universe created? Here is a similar concept to this: you are only aware of the universe because of your brain but your brain only exists because of the universe…

Have fun chewing that thought xx
